It is also known as pork stone. Hardness: Red banded calcite has a hardness of 3, making it easy to carve. In the commercial stone industry, the term "onyx" is used to describe a rock that geologists refer to as "banded calcite". Due to the nature of this product some variations in appearance may occur due to lighting conditions during photography. With it being a product of the earth some naturally occurring imperfections such as cracks and blemishes may be present. I do my best to photograph these items so that you will see any of the above.
